New cluster Turin
The FZU Computing Center has put a new computing cluster, Turin, into operation, once again named after the type of processors used. The cluster consists of 12 servers with a total of 24 AMD EPYC 9455 processors running at 3.1 GHz. It provides2,304 computing slots and a total performance of 52,920 HS23. In terms of overall performance, the Turin cluster does not reach the level of the Milan cluster deployed in 2022, which, with 29 servers, offered 3,712 slots and achieved 66,073 HS23. This difference is mainly due to the lower number of servers, resulting from the project’s limited budget. However, compared to the older system, the new cluster has significantly lower power consumption (10.5 kW vs. 21.7 kW at peak). The acquisition of the cluster was funded by the following projects: “Investments for VI CERN-CZ” (CZ.02.01.01/00/23_015/0008198)“AUGER-III” (CZ.02.01.01/00/23_015/0008186).…

Cluster mikan to Troja Campus
On April 29, 2025 we moved forty worker nodes mikan from our server room in FZU to MFF UK. Servers Huawei RH1288 V3, each equipped with two CPUs Intel Xeon E5-2650 v4, 2.2GHz, have served us reliably for 7.5 years. After reinstallation, we will continue to use them in another server room. We still have nine worker nodes mikan left in FZU. These servers will continue to contribute to the total computing capacity (currently we can run more than 10,000 jobs with a requirement for one core). We will use the freed space in the rack for installation of a new cluster. Many thanks to all administrators who participated in the dismantling, transportation and subsequent assembly and installation.…

WLCG Data Challenge 24
During the second week of the DC24 (WLCG Data Challenge) from Monday 2/19 10am to Friday 2/23 10pm we had an average speed of 51.6 Gbps with a peak hourly average of 75.9 Gbps. In the direction from us, an average of 43.5 Gbps was transferred with a maximum of 71.1 Gbps. So in total we received 2.5 PB of data and sent 2.1 PB in 4.5 days.…

Meeting with users
On November 30, 2023, a traditional meeting with users of the Computing Center took place in the Solid-21 hall. We presented the transition to a new website managed by WordPress, minor changes in system settings and hardware changes that have taken place and are planned. We discussed the most common problems with users.…
